Revel help

  • Sharing an outing with the people goingRevel

How do I share an outing? On the outing, under "Who's planning this", type the person's email address. They must already use Helm: Revel finds them through Helm's own member lookup. If the address is not a Helm member, Revel tells you so, and nobody is invited, created or emailed — Revel sends no email and no invitations.

What shared people can do. Anyone on an outing may share it further. People on the outing vote on the candidate dates (each person votes only for themselves), say whether they are coming, and see who paid for what and who owes whom. An outing someone shared with you appears on your to-dos page under "Outings shared with me".

Removing someone, or leaving. Under "Who's planning this", the person who made the outing can take anyone else off it. Anyone else can take only themselves off — that is leaving the outing. The person who made the outing cannot be taken off it. When someone leaves, their votes go and a part they paid for no longer shows a payer.

Outings you are not on. You can only see outings you planned or that were shared with you. Ask whoever planned an outing to share it with you.

  • Hotels, rooms, tickets and paying — what Revel does and what it leaves to othersRevel

Can Revel book my hotel? No. Revel does not book hotels, rooms or any travel — Drift does. An outing holds the room by reference: its name, your check-in and check-out dates, and a link to the Drift trip when there is one. If you said you want a room and none is noted yet, the outing's Still missing list says so: "You said you want a room, and none is noted yet (rooms are booked through Drift)." Book the room in Drift, then note it on the outing.

Can Revel buy the tickets? No. Revel never buys, pays or holds a card. Each thing to buy is a "part" of the outing — a ticket, parking, a meal — and moves from *still to choose* to *chosen* to *bought*. Only you mark a part bought, after you have bought it on the venue's own site. You can keep the ticket file with its part.

Prices. A part's price is the price you read on the venue's page, kept with that page and the time it was read. Revel cannot promise the venue still charges it.

Buy-by dates. You can give a part a "buy by" date with its reason. Revel sets a Helm reminder for that morning (09:00 in your time zone) for the person who set it. Changing the date replaces the reminder; a part already bought needs none. A part that passes its buy-by date without being bought appears in the Still missing list.

Who paid and who owes whom. For each part you can record who paid and how it is split between the people going. Revel works out who owes whom from that. Revel moves no money — settling up is between you.

Refunds and problems. Revel does not file refunds, claims or disputes with a venue. After the day you can record a problem beside the venue's own rule, so you have it when you contact them.

  • Starting an outing, the Still missing list and the day planRevel

Turning a to-do into an outing. Say what you want to do — a fair, a show, a weekend with the kids. From one of your to-dos, Revel reads the note and proposes what it found: the dates, who is coming, what to buy. It keeps only what you tick. You can also start an outing from scratch on the Outings page. Each to-do has at most one outing.

What the Still missing list means. It lists every gap in the outing, each with a button to fill it, until nothing is missing. It can include: where it is, a part still to choose, a part past its buy-by date, parking not sorted (add it as a part even if it is free), no date suggested or chosen yet, a date waiting on someone, a room you said you want with none noted, a meal missing from a day that runs through lunch or dinner, a meal with no place, and the venue's own app not linked. The list is worked out from the outing every time you open it.

The day plan. Each item on the day has a time and a reason it is there. Revel names clashes, closing times and a missing ticket instead of hiding them, and tells you when to leave. On the day you can see what is next and say you are running late.

Your calendar. "Put it on my calendar" writes the outing to your connected calendar through Helm, and tells you whether it was written or was already there.

After the day. Keep notes, photos, problems and the final cost. Next year Revel remembers what you chose.
